Winglets will be no more in the Moto3 World Championship following a decision made by the Grand Prix Commission in a meeting on 11 May. The decision is effective immediately.

It was initially announced in March that winglets had been banned from Moto2 this season, however such a ban wouldn’t take place until 2017 in the Moto3 division.

That’s all changed now however, with the GPC moving forward the Moto3 ban alongside Moto2. The wings will still be eligible for development and usage in the premier MotoGP World Championship.

“Following a unanimous proposal from all manufacturers in the Moto3 Working Group, the Grand Prix Commission have confirmed that the ban on aerodynamic wings in the Moto3 class will now be effective immediately,” a statement read.

Aerodynamic advancement has been all the rage to date during the 2016 season as MotoGP factories aim to off-set a deduction in electronic sophistication. First adopted by Ducati, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki and Aprilia have since debuted them this year.
