The Western Australian Sporting Car Club (WASCC) has announced track upgrades will take place at Barbagallo Raceway from 9-20 January 2017.

Motorcycle racing and activities were suspended at the Western Australian circuit last month after a Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) report indicated the venue was unfit to host motorcycle sports.

The track upgrades will particularly bring the circuit in line with the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) tri-annual track inspection, however the announcement revealed the WASCC will also address the issues identified in the DSR’s report in order for motorcycle activity to return to the raceway.

According to the WASCC, the main work will include a barrier on the infield and replacement of the tyre barrier with a concrete barrier between flag points eight and nine. Motorcycle Racing Club of WA (MCRCWA) is still planning events to be confirmed in 2017.

It is understood that Barbagallo is scheduled to host round four of the Australian Superbike Championship in June next year, which is to be announced on the recently-unveiled Motorcycling Australia events calendar until the suspension of motorcycle activity is overturned at the circuit.
