Return to the Northern Territory on the agenda for round four.
Motorcycling Australia (MA) is actively working toward a solution to replace Barbagallo Raceway on the 2017 Yamaha Motor Finance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) presented by Motul Pirelli calendar.
Western Australia was ruled out of this year’s series during mid-February due to motorcycles still being suspended from Barbagallo Raceway, however MA has yet to officially release a statement on the matter.
Instead, it’s understood that the ASBK could now be poised to return to Hidden Valley Raceway in the Northern Territory for the first time since 2013, according to paddock whispers at the opening round. Darwin was scheduled to continue in 2014, but was axed mid-season when then promoter International Entertainment Group (IEG) was ousted.
The ASBK has been resurrected by MA since, throughout a rebuilding phase that truly began in 2015, and it has gone from strength-to-strength as a result. Last week, Phillip Island’s opening round of 2017 has been hailed as one of the most significant on record.
With the season already underway, round four on the ASBK calendar remains TBA at this point and it’s tipped that if Hidden Valley Raceway is finalised, it will be bumped back from Barbagallo’s initial June date to be held at the beginning of July.
