Australian STK1000 contender anticipating strong second half.
Australian Mike Jones is feeling prepared and confident ahead of this weekend’s sixth round 2017 Superstock 1000 (STK1000) European Championship at Lausitzring, Germany, marking the return of the series following a two-month break.
The Aruba.it Racing – Junior Team rider completed a positive test at the venue last month, where he stated the circuit felt similar to tracks at home in Australia.
The 2015 Australian Superbike champion, who’s best result this season of eighth came at round three in Italy, said he’s determined to significantly improve his results in the second half of the championship.
“The first part of the season has been quite steady but we made good progress during the last test in Germany, which was really positive,” Jones commented. “I focused on my riding without making too many setup modifications to the bike, and I made some changes to my style that allowed me to improve confidence and, as a consequence, go faster.
“So, I’m really looking forward to the second part of the season. The confidence is quite high and I think we have a good chance to improve our results significantly. We’re determined to do that starting from Lausitzring, which is a little different from all the other circuits in Europe and reminds me of the tracks back at home in Australia.”
Jones is currently positioned 12th in the standings, tied on points for 10th in what is his first year in the series.
