Reale Avintia Racing has confirmed Karel Abraham will join the outfit in a two-year agreement that will see him pilot Ducati machinery in the 2019 and 2020 seasons of the MotoGP World Championship.

The departure of Abraham’s current squad from MotoGP, Aspar Team, has prompted the move that’s solidified his future in grand prix racing for at least the next two years.

“I’m very happy to see Karel Abraham joining our team,” said Raúl Romero, the CEO of Esponsorama. “He is a hard worker, has won in Moto2, and has a lot of experience in MotoGP and with Ducati. I think that with better material and with the work of the whole team, next year Karel will be able to show its true potential. And I’m also happy to announce that we will continue with Ducati for two more seasons.”

Abraham made his MotoGP debut in 2011 on a Ducati and completed five seasons before moving to WorldSBK, ultimately returning to the series in 2017. He currently sits 23rd in the championship standings.

In other Reale Avintia Racing news, Christophe Ponsson will be the replacement rider for Tito Rabat in this weekend’s grand prix at Misano, as Rabat recovers from multiple fractures to his leg in a freak incident at the Silverstone round of the series. In his MotoGP debut, Ponsson will pilot Xavier Simeon’s bike, as Simeon rides Rabat’s GP17 machine.
