Friday Supersport sessions led by Edwards at Phillip Island

Title favourite making intentions clear from 2022 onset.

Tom Edwards has started his 2022 Australian Supersport Championship title charge at the top of the time-sheets on Friday at Phillip Island, entering the 1m34s barrier to complete practice beneath the current lap record.

Edwards set the benchmark in this afternoon’s FP3, finishing ahead of morning pace-setter Senna Agius, the sole Honda rider in the class suffering a fall in the final outing and ending the day in second with a 1m35.264s.

Tom Bramich (Yamaha) showed promise to finish the opening day in third, just missing the 1m35s bracket with a 1m36.048s in the second session, a second ahead of Olly Simpson (Yamaha) in P4 and Ty Lynch (Yamaha) in fifth at 1m37.284s.

In the R3 Cup, Harry Snell ended the day fastest with a 1m48.958s from Brodie Gawith and Varis Fleming, as Liam Waters topped Supersport 300 courtesy of a 1m48.475s, in front of Cameron Dunker and Fleming.

Honda RC30-mounted Scott Campell led the way in Superbike Masters, with John Allen (Yamaha) in second and Murray Clark (Suzuki) completing the top three.

Completing the day quickest in the Oceania Junior Cup was Queensland’s Bodie Page, leading Levi Russo and Harrison Watts.
