Jason O’Halloran opened his 2022 Bennetts British Superbikes (BSB) account with 5-6-5 results at Silverstone, the McAMS Yamaha rider continuing to come to grips with the 2022 Yamaha R1.

O’Halloran showed great pace in the build-up to this year’s series, notably setting the fastest lap in testing at Snetterton while testing many versions of the bike.

While the results from Silverstone’s opener may not have been what the Australian was hoping for, areas for improvement were able to be identified ahead of this week’s test at Oulton Park.

“It’s not been the most simple of weekends,” O’Halloran. “The package we’ve got for 2022 is very new to us, the list of changes for this year is as long as my arm and it takes time to get used to that, but you have to stick with it.

“The final race of the weekend was the first time I felt like I was in the race and we figured out the areas we need to improve. We’re not a million miles away with the chassis settings, the more I ride it the more I know it and although the result isn’t a win or a podium, I’m actually really happy with the work we’ve done this weekend as I know it will pay off in the long run.”

O’Halloran sits P6 in the championship, 45 points adrift from leader Glenn Irwin who achieved perfect 1-1-1 results to start his 2022 campaign. Round two takes place at Oulton Park on 30 April – 2 May.
