Talented international racer Harrison Voight has outlined that his intentions are to commence the Mi-Bike Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) in Supersport before returning to Europe, also testing a Yamaha R1 this Saturday at Sydney Motorsport Park (SMSP).

Stepping up to Moto2 in the European Championship this season Voight will race for the Yamaha Phillippines Stylobike Racing Team, previously contesting the JuniorGP World Championship with SIC58 Squadra Corse and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup (RBRC).

Voight returned to Australia last year to compete in the final round of ASBK as a Supersport entry for Thriller Motorsports, delivering a commanding performance to take pole position and two race wins. As part of his preparation for the 2023 season, he has outlined that he will race the opening round of ASBK at Phillip Island on a 600.

“My plan is to do the test, then the first round at Phillip Island,” Voight explained to CycleOnline. “The second round… we are looking at it, but it’s a little bit difficult, it’s like in between whether I’m heading off or whatnot. It will just kind of depend on risk-taking wise, I’m not going to be doing a lot but I will still be doing some before I take off again.”

The Australian is also set to take the track this Saturday on the R1 used by Marcel Schrotter under the Thriller Motorsports banner in Tailem Bend last year, riding at the track day prior to the St George Summer Night Series round.

“Yeah it’s just to get a feel for it, I actually had a few laps on Jack’s [Miller] superbike almost 18 months ago, it was a while ago, but proper first go on a superbike so should be good,” Voight added.

While it has not been confirmed, there is potential for Voight to return after the European season and compete domestically in the premier class for the ASBK finale.

The first round of the 2023 Moto2 European Championship takes place on 7 May at Estoril, with the series spanning to round seven at Valencia on 5 November.
