Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP Junior Team’s Senna Agius made a perfect start to the 2023 European Moto2 Championship at Estoril and secured two race victories from pole position, while fellow Australian Harrison Voight joined him on the podium in race one.

The event marked Agius’ second competitive outing in the 2023 season after he filled in for the injured Darryn Binder in the Moto2 World Championship at Jerez.

Agius showed strong pace from the official onset of the event at Estoril, leading practice and then qualifying on pole position by 0.280s ahead of the two races.

The number 81 dominated the opening encounter, stretching out a 7.263s advantage in 11 laps as he banked 25 points to start the season. Another commanding showing in race two saw Agius lead every lap on his way to a perfect start to the season.

“Perfect Sunday,” Agius shared. “Leaving Estoril with 50 points towards the championship. I can’t thank enough the entire Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact Junior GP Team for their work this weekend. Onto Valencia.”

Also competing in the European Moto2 category, Voight (Yamaha Philippines Stylobike Racing Team) debuted in the class and charged to P3 in the opening encounter from ninth on the grid. Unfortunately in race two while battling for second, he was brought down which spelled a premature end to his outing.

Of other Australians delivering solid performances at Estoril, Jacob Roulstone (Aspar Junior Team) finished P5 in the JuniorGP World Championship category, while Archie McDonald finished P6 in the Stock 600 category. Carter Thompson (AGR Team) rebounded from a DNF in race one of the European Talent Cup to finish P14 in race two.

Round two of the 2023 FIM JuniorGP World Championship takes place at Valencia, Spain, between 19-21 May.
