Kawasaki Australia has unveiled an all-new Z1000 naked bike with ABS braking for 2010, although release details or pricing are yet to be finalised.

The new Kawasaki has a boosted capacity of 1043cc in comparison to the current model’s 953cc, courtesy of a bigger stroke of 56mm, while the bore is just 0.20mm smaller at 77mm.

Its liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine that’s designed with torque in mind is claimed to have 81 foot pounds and a linear powerband that spins up from 7000rpm onwards, with the lowered crankshaft and transmission placed in straight set-up for a better appearance.

A secondary balancer has been inserted within the engine to decrease vibration, while the compression ratio has been raised. The electronic fuel-injection now has downdraft 38mm throttle bodies to shorten the distance air has to travel from the intake, while longer funnels are used to improve the power character.

There are also new intake ducts above the airbox. The airbox also has a resonator inside to reduce noise at low rpm, while also increasing the intake sound at high rpm.

Kawasaki has used a four-into-two exhaust with quad-style short mufflers, with the rear horizontal back-link suspension designed to sit above the aluminium swingarm so its performance isn’t affected by the heat from to exhaust.

Its specifically-designed backbone twin-spar aluminium frame, similar in concept to the ZX-10R, now mounts the engine in three places instead of four, and is four kilograms lighter than the 2009 model while being more rigid.

The inverted forks are fully-adjustable at 41mm, featuring covers from top to bottom, and the tapered handlebars are higher, wider and mounted further toward the front. Its styling is sharp, available in pearl stardust white/candy burnt orange or metallic spark black/atomic silver. There’s an LED taillight to add to its appearance, while the instrument panel is adjustable in three separate ways and is fully digital.

Kawasaki’s new Z1000 has a 3.5 litre fuel tanks than its predecessor at 15 litres and is slimmer at the rear, a seat height that’s 5mm lower, its wheelbase is now 5mm shorter at 1440mm, while the trail has been increased by a single millimetre.

The big news is the addition of ABS braking, using dual radial-mounted four-piston calipers and 300mm pedal braking discs at the front and a single 250mm disc that’s clamped by a single caliper at the rear.

Five-spoke cast wheels and ZX-10R-style footpegs, featuring luggage hooks on the pillions’, cap off the impressive list of changes of the new Kawasaki Super Naked.

Expect the 2010 ASB Kawasaki Z1000 to be released in the first quarter of the new year.
