2010 Australian Supersport Champion Troy Herfoss is planning a full-time return to domestic competition in 2014 in conjunction with Warwick Nowland’s Kawasaki team.

As reported by CycleOnline at the start of the month, Herfoss will pilot a Kawasaki ZX-6R at the Sydney Motorsport Park Australian Superbike Championship double-header next week, with a view to an extended involvement next season.

“I am really looking forward to riding for WNR Kawasaki next weekend,” said Herfoss, who won eight races in his championship season in 2010.

“We have the same goals and we are currently working on plan for 2014 that will include the addition of a junior rider.”

Herfoss, who also confirmed he will be on the grid at the MotoGP support events, said he had given the move plenty of consideration and believed it offered him a solid chance of success.

“You don’t race at this level just to fill the grid,” said Herfoss. “I’m racing because I believe I can win.

“Obviously we have to see what both mine and the bike’s level is, but I am not going into the weekend to make up the numbers.”

The NSW-based rider raced to a standout third place in the Superbike class in 2011 before departing for a successful stint overseas in the IDM German Superbike Championship ranks.

Prior to his road racing success, Herfoss had carved out a successful Supermoto career abroad, winning the AMA Supermoto Championship and also securing a silver medal in X Games competition.
